Centacare Catholic Psychiatric Pastoral Care

Centacare’s Catholic Psychiatric Pastoral Care (CPPC) is a support organisation that provides help for people suffering with a psychiatric illness. Our centre is a welcoming, homely and relaxing place for people suffering from a mental illness. We provide a range of activities or people can simply rest quietly or chat casually with others. Our centre in Fortitude Valley is managed by Pastoral Carers who make themselves available for one to one contact. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

We also have pastoral care services established at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, The Park, Redland Hospital, Moreton Bay Nursing Unit, Ipswich Hospital, Nambour Hospital, Caboolture Hospital, New Farm Clinic and Toowong Private Hospital, and Redcliffe Community Care Unit and Belmont Private Hospital are visited on request.

CPPC also provide our services to nine hostels within the Brisbane area: Clayfield House, Willow House, Pinjarra Lodge, Gracemere Ladies Home, Green Meadow Court, Herston Lodge, Montray Villa Hostel, Bayside Lodge and Victoria Gardens.

We also have an extensive training program focused in the area of psychiatry and spirituality which enables selected volunteers to become trained pastoral carers.

These trained pastoral carers support the six ministries of CPPC:

  • Hospital Visitation
  • Hostel Visitation
  • The Day Centre
  • Catholic Companionship
  • The Prayer Ministry
  • The Office

Pastoral Carer’s Training Course

Each year Centacare’s Catholic Psychiatric Pastoral Care training course trains volunteer pastoral carers to support people with mental illness in hospitals, supported accommodation and our day centre. You may have seen the 2020 course advertised in February and March, however, due to COVID-19 the 2020 training course has been cancelled.
