Getting involved in Dementia Awareness Month can help improve the lives of people with dementia, their families and carers. This year’s theme highlights that the ‘small actions’ we take can make a big difference.
One of the first steps to make this difference is to become a Dementia Friend. Run by Dementia Australia, becoming a friend will help to transform the way we think, act and talk about dementia.
Becoming a Dementia Friend is easy. All you need to do is go to dementiafriendly.org.au, complete a small form and then watch three videos that explain dementia and feature interviews with people impacted by dementia.
At Centacare, we’ve encouraged our team members to become Dementia Friends and we are really excited over the positive response. We are also celebrating Dementia Awareness Month by hosting a range of events including, yoga laughing, a yarning morning tea, virtual reality experiences and a hospital pop-up Memory Café to name just a few.
