Clients and staff at Centacare’s Hervey Bay office were treated to a fun cooking demonstration when Channel Seven’s My Kitchen Rules (MKR) 2013 winners, Dan and Steph paid a visit!
Dan and Steph, who now run their own restaurant in Hervey Bay, are local celebrities. The dynamic duo presented a cooking demonstration for the Fraser Coast’s Carer Support Group. On the menu was chorizo and bacon soup with flat bread, and deconstructed apple crumble with mascarpone. Sounds delicious!
“Our Carer Support Group meets fortnightly here in Hervey Bay and is open to all carers across the Fraser Coast,” said Nicky Grieg, Centacare’s Mental Health Coordinator, Fraser Coast.
“The Support Group is for carers of people experiencing mental health issues, the aim is to give them a break from their caring role and enjoy some recreational and social activities.”
“The carers really enjoyed the opportunity to learn new recipes, socialise, taste some delectable delights and to hear about the behind-the-scenes information from Dan and Steph’s time on MKR.”
“Carers frequently tell us about the benefits of having time out from the caring role, which can often be very socially isolating and demanding. So to be able to enjoy recreational and social activities is much appreciated and important for them,” said Nicky.
Dan and Steph are well known for helping others learn to cook by sharing their knowledge of different cooking techniques with the community.
“To be able to showcase these cooking techniques and share our passion to the many carers within Centacare, was really special,” said Steph.
“It was really nice to give back to people who give so much, and to let them have time to learn something new or just to enjoy themselves on a different level. We believe the morning was very successful for all involved and we look forward to seeing the group again soon,” she said.
Everyone at Centacare would like to thank Dan and Steph for sharing their time and their talents with us. The day was a big success all around!
