History - Centacare Brisbane

Our History

In the late 1950s a voluntary group of knowledgeable and dedicated professionals sought approval from the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Brisbane to form a Catholic Marriage Advisory Council. The request came in response to a perceived need for marriage counselling in the Archdiocese.

Over the ensuing years, new services in family and relationship support, disability, child care, aged care and pastoral care have been added to our services.

Now, 60 years later, Centacare continues to tend to the complex and ever changing needs of the people of South East Queensland with more than 3,200 staff and volunteers providing help and creating hope for tens of thousands of people in more than 200 locations.
