St Mary’s Catholic Child Care Centre Upper Coomera
Our centre is part of the St Mary’s Catholic Community, Upper Coomera and was opened in June 2006 to support the needs of the local growing community and continue to build strong relationships within the community. We are a 75 place centre located on the same grounds as Assisi Catholic College, where children as young as six weeks are provided with quality education and care until Prep age.
A majority of our children transition through to Assisi, however, we continue to build connections with all local schools to support all the children in our Kindergarten Approved Program ensuring a smooth transition.
Assisi Catholic College is very supportive in allowing our kindergarten children to utilise their facilities during school holidays. This enables the children to extend on their learning into the local community, encompassing skills such as road safety, walking sensibly around the school grounds, becoming familiar with different play equipment and possible routines. Children who have participated have shown that they are more confident in when starting prep; this information has been gathered by our educators and the prep teachers.
Our centre provides delicious, nutritious meals including morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. This is prepared by our qualified chef under the guidelines of Nutrition Australia.
We have recently upgraded our outdoor play areas and have an architecturally designed playground that encompasses many different natural play spaces which captures the imagination of all children. Such as a dry creek bed, bridges, decking, stages, large undercover verandahs, with pull down shade blinds when needed, large sand pits not to mention the vegetable gardens, worm farms and chickens. These areas support the Early Years Learning Framework allowing flexibility in the children’s learning having an indoor / outdoor program that creates an environment designed to foster children’s learning and development.
This year we were assessed against the National Quality Standards with an overall rating of Meeting, however exceeding in 3 of the 7 areas which we are very proud to have achieved. We continue to set ourselves goals in order to improve our practices according to the National Quality Standards.
